-TRHEE NEWS 2009/2010: AVANAQ HV, SEA WOLF LV AND ISLAND OF SARDINIA WITH 2 OVAL HATCHES

Sea Wolf LV: New version with height on all the hull lower 2 cm. The LV (Low volume) version is more suitable for those who wants to travel with low weight or for paddler not much heavy. Great for paddlers from 75 to 95 kg. However it remains the remarkable cargo abilities and the great performances.

Avanaq HV: high volume version: more cargo abilities and more space in the paddler area up to the feet zone. Avanaq HV (High Volume) is available with all the hulls of the Avanaq family (Agile, Normale and Fast).
This version is the best choice for paddlers of large/medium size and for those who want to use Avanaq as all round boat.
Still available the normal version with the three hulls, Agile, Normale and Fast, 2 cm lower than the HV version and with less volume.

Island of Sardinia MV 2 oval hatches: best seller Sardinia MV comes now equipped with two ovals hatches (till now available only on Sea Wolf): more versatile and friendly use even for big expeditions and more cargo abilities. The Island of Sardinia MV is till available with a front round hatch and an oval back hatch.

On all the kayak is now available the 4 hatch: a day hatch just in front the paddler able to contain small objects that you may need during navigation.

-EVOLUTIONS AND STYLE: NEW LOGO AND QAJAQ WEBSITE

After a so great expectation here is our new logo and website at last!
In the course of time Qajaq, as a good handmade workshop, has increased mainly in the production, improving the substance and, thus, arriving to produce high level kayaks.
It was clear the need to renew the company image, to communicate better and to improve the contents.
The study and the logo creation has been assigned to Costantini Francesco, a young Digital Designer, who has concentrated the kayak concepts, paddling, amusement, good style and made in Italy, in the new logo.
The website has been enriched and renewed from the stylistic point of view with the purpose to offer further information.

-2009 RANGE

On every models will be possible to add the new fourth hatch. Island of Sardinia Mv now is available with the second oval hatch. New Avanaq MV. Each models of Avanaq has been modify in the deck for a better confort in the feet area and we have add the third hatch. Is still available the normal version, only with two hatchs.

-A NEW QAJAQ MODEL

-NIGER RIVER AFRICA

An unusual expedition was carried through by Mario Droghini in the heart of Africa by an Endurance: a Niger River descent in Mali from Segou to Timbouctu.

Mario Droghini, 52 years old, loves adventures and traditional people, on his shoulders 18 voyages in the five continents, trekking, climbing and explorations.

Mario, what is the meaning of all these journeys?
They are adventurous travels, that allow me to escape from the western world at the discovery of very ancient and still intact populations. My journeys have always got an anthropological aim together with the scenary discovery.

How was this journey born?
Since I became a kayak lover I have always thought to use it as a means to discover those populations that still live in symbiosis with water as their ancestors and I wanted to see them from their world, from the same river. I chose Niger River because it is full of ethnic traditions and, then, because these populations were among the first ones in the history to use small boats with a canoe shape for their survival: hunting, fishing and movings.

So the kayak was the ideal choice?
Yes, the kayak allowed me to get in touch with them in full harmony and to visit the furthermost areas not accessible in other ways.

Did you find any difficulties or particular moments?
No, I didn’t have to face particular difficulties, the populations I met were very sociable and especially interested in my “futuristic” kayak!
Anyway, I had collected satisfactory information so I was self-sufficient about drinking and eating with a support boat as a guide and foodstuff transportation.


How did you feel with Endurance?
Very well. The Endurance I used is separable into three pieces, for an easy air transport. Its characteristics are ideal for these journeys: comfort, stability, practicality, capacity and a good speed.

And what about your next adventure?
An excursion on Tana Lake in Ethiopia, it is one of the most ancient lakes in the history surrounded by monasteries and not civilized ethnic populations, but also inhabited by crocodiles and hippopotamus!
In the years to come, then, the high Nile River will not be forgotten in order to discover the ancient Egyptian civilizations.

-THE KORNATI ISLANDS IN OCTOBER

Two kayakers in complete autonomy stuggling with Bora and . . . . . Pelinkovac*!
The Kornati islands, the most fascinating archipelago of the Adriatic Sea, are even more savage and wilder in October, with no yatches and sea motorbikes invading the scenary.

It’s quite difficult to describe the beauty of these islands and many people have already tried to do it. As if such a wonder should remain “a secret” and only the ones, who dare to venture, can discover the extraordinary and really unique scenary.
By a Sea Wolf and an Aqua, loaded with all the necessary to survive in complete autonomy for five days, two close kayakers covered 70 miles under different sea conditions, from a flat sea to rough sea, with a crosswise Bora wind (Bora is an Adriatic wind from north east, very strong), exploring islands and crossing canals.
The journey started from the little village of Sali in Dugi Otok island, reached Telascica Bay, some islands of the Kornati archipelago and among them Mana island, the southern point of the Kornati island, Zut island, Biograd town, Pasman island, Ugljan island, and the wonderful Zadar was the final destination.

-THE SAILING ROUND THAT SUPPORTS AFRICA

Francesco Gambella has sailed round Italy on an Island of Sardinia: from Savona to Venice he has covered 1,852 sea miles in 64 days collecting funds for Amref’s important project, named “Flying Doctors”.


Francesco, what is the meaning of this enterprise?

I’ve been going by a kayak for 22 years, for me kayak is life, freedom: the best cure for stress. Thanks to the canoe I faced my first journey, I acquired skill: when I am on a kayak all my problems disappear at the very first paddle stroke.
This undertaking is the successful completion of a dream I have had since I was a child:
to sail round Italy by a sea kayak!


But the most important meaning has been the one to use a kayak to promote a culture respecting human nature and the environment with the purpose to guarantee everybody all the basic rights!

Francesco and Island of Sardinia, is it a winning team?

Yes, I really think so! Island of Sardinia is able to sail quickly with flat and rough sea. It is the right kayak to face the sailing round Italy. I was looking for a fast and at the same time a comfortable handy kayak to face any sea and weather condition.
During the sailing round Italy I met both a flat sea and a Bora wind at fourty-five knots with waves higher than three meters and the Sardinia kayak has always been able to cope with: it must be steered actively, but it is unbeatable.

And what about your next adventure?

My next adventure will take me to Kenya. There the national canoe team was born not long ago and I will co-ordinate ten boys of the Kenyan team in the trip Malindi-Mombasa paddling in the marvellous reefs, always with the aim to collect funds useful for Amref and to promote this sport also in the areas where the sea kayak is unknown.
